Late last month, a suspect was accused of drunk driving after being involved in fatal car crash. The accident happened in northeast Colorado Springs during the early morning hours on a Wednesday. According to police, the individual who died was an 18-year-old female who died from blunt injuries.

When authorities arrived on scene at approximately 12:15 a.m., they found three individuals inside the two cars involved in the crash. Everyone needed to be extricated from the vehicles. Both drivers required hospital care for serious injuries.

Police had not arrested anyone related to the crash as of last reports because they were still in the process of investigating the collision. During the investigation, authorities shut down the intersection where the crash happened for six hours.

At this point, authorities suspect that the allegedly intoxicated driver was traveling northbound when, just after 12 a.m., the alleged drunk driver drove through a red light and collided with an eastbound vehicle. The fatal collision resulted in the 18th death from a traffic accident in Colorado Springs so far this year. Fatal accident statistics from 2015 reveal that 22 people died in car accidents last year.

The man who authorities suspect was intoxicated in this crash, and who they believe drove through the red light, could face very serious allegations if he is ultimately charged with a crime relating to this incident.
