WHY DO PEOPLE DRINK AND DRIVE?

On Behalf of The Foley Law Firm | June 10, 2016

Despite the fact that most people understand the seriousness of drinking and driving, this still remains a major problem throughout the country. Alcohol changes your mind and body in many ways, often giving you false confidence and the feeling of invincibility. These feelings never last a long time but often get people in trouble before they sober up.

Drinking and driving is dangerous, but there are reasons why people continue to do so:

-- They don't realize they have had too much to drink.

-- They feel confident that they can drive in a careful manner, reaching their destination without incident.

-- They make rash decisions as a result of their alcohol intake.

-- They are ashamed of drinking too much and don't want to call somebody for a ride.

-- They are looking to escape a bad situation and think it is okay to do so by driving drunk.

Since drinking and driving remains such a big problem, police are always on the lookout for people who have had too much alcohol. The problem with this is that they often pull over drivers who are sober and obeying the law.

If you are pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence, it's not a time to argue with the police officer. Instead, follow his or her instructions carefully and make it clear that you understand him or her. In the event that you were not drinking, you should be able to pass a field sobriety test that shows the officer that he or she made a mistake.

For those who are arrested for drinking and driving, the right defense strategy is a must. It's possible that a mistake was made that led to the arrest.
