Alleged Domestic Violence Leads To Charges For Colorado Athlete

On Behalf of The Foley Law Firm | November 1, 2013

When a person is allegedly involved in some type of disagreement that may get out of hand, authorities may be called to assess the situation. In some cases, charges may be filed against a party involved that could come with serious penalties if the individual is found guilty. Domestic violence and kidnapping allegations are severe accusations to deal with, and knowing how to handle the situation could be prudent.

The starting goal keeper for the Colorado Avalanche hockey team is currently facing similar charges after an unspecified situation. The accused turned himself in to authorities after there was a warrant put out for his arrest on kidnapping and assault charges. According to reports, the situation is considered to be related to domestic violence, though who the alleged victim was is unclear.

The kidnapping charge the goalie is facing is a felony allegation that could mean up to six years in jail if convicted. The assault charge is a misdemeanor. It is unclear what circumstances led to such allegations being leveled against the accused, but authorities should gather information on the incident from those involved and hear all sides of the story.

An initial court date has already been set, and the accused was not allowed bond. As his case moves forward, the man should have the ability to present any relevant evidence that could suggest his innocence or benefit his case in general. Understanding Colorado laws dealing with domestic violence situations and the specific allegations he faces could pay dividends as he handles his legal circumstances.
