Cat bites may be more dangerous than you realize

On Behalf of The Foley Law Firm | January 15, 2022

People often realize that dog bites can be very dangerous, mostly on account of the size and strength of the dogs. In fact,  there are multiple fatal dog-bite accidents every single year, not to mention serious injuries suffered by those who survive.

Since they're much smaller, people often think of cats as a bit less dangerous than dogs. But the fact of the matter is that a bite from a cat can also be very hazardous to your health and could have serious complications.

The role of infection

One of the problems that can arise after a cat bite is a severe infection. In some cases, this can even lead to blood poisoning or sepsis. If this happens, the infection has spread far beyond the initial bite wound and is now in the blood itself, and this condition can be fatal even with treatment. If you end up in the hospital, you could spend a long time getting the treatment that you need, which can be very expensive.

How do you know if it's infected? In a general sense, the area will get red, sore and swollen. It will be more painful than it was before. Rather than getting better, you may see red streaks moving out from it. You could develop a fever or other related symptoms. If your health condition seems to be worsening, rather than improving with time, then you know then an infection may have set in and it's important to seek medical attention.

As noted, all of this can get very expensive, and so it's also wise to look into your legal options to seek proper compensation for your injuries and losses.
