Restrictions On A Concealed Carry License In Colorado

On Behalf of The Foley Law Firm | August 10, 2021

If you are a gun owner, it’s important that you understand the laws that apply to you and how they impact your right to carry your gun. If you have a concealed carry license, that does give you the right to carry your gun in a concealed manner, such as in a pocket or purse.

However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to carry anywhere you want. Colorado’s concealed carry license is not recognized in all states, so if you plan to travel to Missouri, South Carolina, Florida or other states, you will need to look up the requirements to bring your weapon. On the other hand, if you want to go to Mississippi or Texas, you’ll be able to use your license and conceal your weapon thanks to reciprocity laws.

Colorado allows anyone who is 21 or older and who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm to seek a concealed carry permit, or CCW. The state has currently issued approximately 555,000 CCWs.

Can you carry anywhere in the state with a CCW?

Not necessarily. For example, Colorado’s statutes don’t address hotels, which are allowed to make their own specific requirements for gun possession and firearms in their facilities. Some hotels may ask that you open carry or do not bring your gun inside. It is also not legal to carry when you’re under the influence of alcohol.

Are “no weapons allowed” signs enforced?

No, the state doesn’t enforce these.

These are a few things to know about your CCW. Be cautious with the license, because there are still restrictions that apply to you as a gun user.
