A home invasion in Cascade, Colorado, which is just west of Colorado Springs, turned into a lengthy standoff and a hostage situation for the seven residents in the home.

The 911 calls started coming in about 8:30 a.m., from a residence in Cascade, but the calls were dropped. When deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office respond to the address, they quickly learned that several people were allegedly being held hostage by two individuals who were possibly armed.

A standoff ensued, with authorities shutting down Highway 24 for several hours. All of the people who lived in the home got out safely by 2 p.m., and a 28-year-old man was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a gun, child abuse, second-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery and first-degree burglary. The man required medical care, although the sheriff's office didn't say why. He was taken to a local hospital, released and booked into the jail.

After that arrest, the SWAT team went into the home and found the second man. He was released after being questioned by deputies.

Some of the residents in the home waited outside where it began to snow until the house was cleared by SWAT. One woman said, "I'm inside the house, like in the center of the house, and I didn't hear nothing, you know. Then I heard my name on the intercom." That intercom belonged to law enforcement who was telling the woman to get out of the house.
